Autumn Concert

Sat 29 & Sun 30 September 2001

This is a tribute to the work of Rodgers and Hart and Hammerstein. Tickets are available for £6 from Jackie Purdy (0161 643 3384), or from Pat Smithies at rehearsals. There will be a cold buffet provided, and the bar will be open for beer, wines and soft drinks. Church Hall 8pm.

Ruddigore

Wed 20 - Sat 23 February 2002

Jean Day and Ian Orry are directing, and Cathie Brooks will once again be Musical Director. Rehearsals will start on Thursday 4 October at 7.45pm in the Church Hall.

Ian's plans mean we need ten canvas deckchairs. If anyone knows where any deckchairs might be found, would they please tell Ian Orry (0161 643 8571).

There are still some small parts available which will be cast during rehearsals.

Quiz Night

Following the success of the last one, we're having another. We'll be starting at 8pm, in the Church Hall, and there will be bar.

Sponsored Sing

This has raised more than £360 profit. A big thank you to everyone who took part.

Community Centre

Alkrington Community Centre have asked us to put on a short entertainment again, on Thursday 6 December 2001. Could you notify Vanessa if you're thinking of getting involved.

Carol Concert

We're joining with the Ebernezer Baptist Church Brass Band for a carol concert in the Church Hall. More details in the next newsletter.

A Tomb with a View

Bernard Mole is producing "A Tomb with a View" by Norman Robbins as our spring play. Bernard wishes to have the play cast before Christmas. To this end he will be holding two read-throughs later this year. Further details in the October newsletter. Rehearsals will begin on Thursday 7 March 2002.

Please contact Bernard (0161 761 4540) as soon as possible if

  • You have any interest in appearing in the play.
  • You require any further information regarding the characters, size of part or the amount of "work" the various parts entail.

Membership

Membership for the year 2001/2002 is now due, and our new membership secretary will be contacting people. Full playing member (waged) is £20, for other full members (non-playing or unwaged) it is £10, and associate membership is £3. Associate membership has been introduced following the AGM and entitles people to mailings only.

Sandie Hughes

As most of you will know, Sandie has recently had heart surgery. She is up and about now, and it's good to see her looking so well.
